Lake County Health Department Plans
Public Health Emergency Response
The County Clerk's office has partnered with the Health Department to develop an innovative concept to implement in the event of a public health emergency. The conceptual plan involves utilizing the county's 200+ voting locations as points of distribution for medication. Lake county residents would have their head of household report to their assigned polling place in an emergency to receive medication for all members in their household.
There are many advantages to this plan:
-Most people are familiar with their local polling place
-Identifying a large number of distribution sites reduces overcrowding at locations
-Neighborhood polling place is easy to find (visit www.co.lake.il.us/cntyclk for picture and directions) and convenient for residents
Support for this project has been widespread from local officials, including police and fire chiefs, mayors, school superintendents, and polling place managers. While the plan is still in the development stage, the Health Department will provide additional details to the public in the near future.
