History and Mission
Warren Special Recreation Association (WSRA) is a partnership of Grandwood Park District, Gurnee Park District, Warren Township and Wildwood Park District. Since 1981, WSRA has coordinated recreational programs for individuals of all ages with special needs. It is the purpose of WSRA to ensure that all individuals residing within the boundaries of its member districts receive recreational services, no matter what their ability. Services are aimed at helping everyone learn new skills, improve their abilities and increase self-esteem, all through the fun that recreation provides.
Children and adults with disabilities who reside within the boundaries of Grandwood Park District, Gurnee Park District, Warren Township and Wildwood Park District are eligible to receive services. Individuals who reside outside member district boundaries are welcome to participate at an increased program cost.
The Association offers a wide range of year-round, recreational programs from cultural and social events, to sports, outdoor activities, arts and crafts, and special event programs. WSRA?s summer day camps provide experiences similar to those provided by the programs and camps offered by its member districts.
The WSRA office is located in Gurnee, at the Warren Township Center, 17801 W. Washington Street. The facility was completed in 1997 as a result of a generous donation from the Gagewood Lions Club. Programs are held in member district facilities, schools and other community establishments.
WSRA does not levy taxes. The agency is primarily supported by contributions from the member districts. Other funds come from program fees, donations and fundraising.
